Ashish Mishra, Marketing Chief, ZEE Entertainment

ZEE Entertainment Enterprises has appointed Ashish Mishra as Chief Marketing Officer, strengthening its marketing leadership as the media company looks to sharpen its brand strategy and deepen consumer engagement across its businesses.

Based at ZEE’s Mumbai headquarters, Mishra will report to Punit Goenka, Chief Executive Officer of ZEE Entertainment. He will oversee the company’s marketing and brand agenda, including consumer propositions, marketing campaigns and network-level strategic projects.

The appointment brings an executive with more than two decades of experience across marketing, brand strategy, consumer engagement, business growth, digital transformation and go-to-market functions to ZEE’s senior leadership.

Mishra joins ZEE after serving as Chief Marketing Officer at digital insurance company ACKO, where he spent nearly six years. At ACKO, his responsibilities included marketing strategy, brand building, customer acquisition and growth initiatives across channels.

During his tenure, Mishra worked on building ACKO as a digital-first insurance brand and shaping its consumer positioning in India’s competitive insurance market.

Before ACKO, Mishra spent nearly 14 years with HSBC across India, Dubai and London. His roles included Product Marketing Head and Regional Marketing Lead, with responsibilities spanning multiple markets in the Middle East, including the UAE, Oman, Egypt, Bahrain and Qatar.

His work at HSBC covered categories such as retail banking, cards, wealth, brand marketing and customer growth. Earlier in his career, Mishra worked in advertising with DDB Mudra Group and Lowe Lintas.

At ZEE, Mishra will be tasked with strengthening the company’s marketing interventions across a portfolio that spans television, digital entertainment, music and other media businesses.

Goenka said the company is focused on building a future-ready organisation that remains closely connected with consumers while responding to emerging opportunities across the entertainment landscape. He added that Mishra’s experience in building consumer-centric brands would support ZEE’s efforts to strengthen its overall brand proposition.

Mishra said his priorities would include sharpening ZEE’s brand and content strategy, strengthening consumer engagement across the network and supporting business value creation.

The appointment also brings a change within ZEE’s existing marketing structure. Kartik Mahadev, who has been part of the company’s marketing function, will move to another role within the organisation. ZEE has not yet disclosed details of his new position.

Mishra takes charge as media companies increasingly compete for consumer attention across linear television, streaming and digital platforms. For entertainment businesses, this has expanded the marketing mandate beyond conventional campaign promotion to include audience insights, digital engagement, content discovery and cross-platform brand building.

ZEE has recently been expanding its entertainment and sports proposition, including investments around football properties and its digital platforms. The company’s appointment of a marketing leader with experience across digital-first and traditional businesses adds to that broader focus on consumer engagement and brand growth.

With Mishra assuming the CMO role, ZEE is placing its marketing and brand strategy under a leader whose career has spanned advertising, financial services and digital-first consumer businesses.
