Hero MotoCorp has appointed automotive industry executive Srihari "Sri" Mulgund as Chief Strategy Officer, strengthening its leadership team as the two-wheeler manufacturer navigates changes across electric mobility, powertrain technologies and the broader automotive market.
Mulgund's appointment took effect on August 17, 2026. In his new role, he will join Hero MotoCorp's Leadership Team and will also be designated as part of Senior Management under applicable stock exchange listing regulations.
He brings more than 24 years of experience across engineering, product development and business strategy in the global automotive sector. His areas of expertise include automotive strategy, electric vehicle value chains, powertrain engineering and emerging mobility technologies.
Before joining Hero MotoCorp, Mulgund was a Partner at EY-Parthenon, where his work focused on India's new-age mobility sector. His responsibilities included strategic engagements involving electric vehicles, batteries, internal combustion engines, automotive supply chains and emerging mobility technologies.
His work at EY also covered evolving powertrain technologies. Mulgund has written about areas including lithium manganese iron phosphate batteries, sodium-ion battery technology, hydrogen internal combustion engines and the role of hybrid vehicles in India's transition towards electric mobility.
Prior to EY-Parthenon, Mulgund held multiple senior positions at Ricardo Strategic Consulting, including President for Asia, President of Ricardo India and Vice President. His career has also included roles as a powertrain consultant at FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and positions at Aisin Technical Center of America, where he worked as a programme manager and product development engineer.
At Hero MotoCorp, Mulgund is expected to contribute to the company's strategic priorities and future growth initiatives, drawing on his experience across automotive technology, electrification, powertrains and global business strategy.
The appointment comes as established two-wheeler manufacturers continue to manage portfolios spanning conventional internal combustion engine vehicles and emerging electric mobility products. Battery technologies, supply chains and evolving powertrain choices have become increasingly important strategic considerations for automotive companies as the industry adapts to changing regulations and consumer demand.
Hero MotoCorp has also been building its presence in electric mobility through VIDA, its electric vehicle business. The company operates across multiple international markets alongside its core position in India's two-wheeler sector.
Mulgund's experience across electric mobility and conventional automotive technologies gives him exposure to several of the areas currently shaping strategic decisions within the industry.
His previous work has also examined hybrid vehicles as a possible transitional technology for India while the country's electric vehicle ecosystem develops. In an April 2025 analysis, Mulgund and his EY-Parthenon colleagues said a complete transition would extend beyond FY31 and highlighted taxation, infrastructure and technology availability as factors influencing adoption.
The appointment adds an automotive strategy specialist to Hero MotoCorp's senior leadership as the company balances its established two-wheeler business with emerging technologies and changing mobility requirements.
