Redwood Materials has raised $550 million in fresh funding as the battery recycling and energy storage company accelerates its expansion into powering artificial intelligence data centers, reflecting growing investor confidence in energy infrastructure supporting the AI boom. The financing comes as demand for reliable electricity and battery storage continues to rise alongside rapid investments in AI computing facilities worldwide.

Founded by Tesla co-founder JB Straubel, Redwood Materials initially built its business around recycling end-of-life lithium-ion batteries and recovering critical materials such as lithium, nickel and cobalt for reuse in electric vehicle batteries. As growth in the electric vehicle market moderated, the company expanded into battery manufacturing and, more recently, stationary energy storage for AI data centers.

The latest funding will help Redwood scale its energy storage division, which repurposes electric vehicle batteries that still retain significant usable capacity into large-scale battery systems capable of supplying power to data centers.
