Kamlesh Jobanputra, CTO, Tata AIA Life Insurance

Tata AIA Life Insurance has appointed Kamlesh Jobanputra as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO), reinforcing the insurer's technology leadership as it continues to expand its digital capabilities and AI-driven transformation initiatives.

The appointment comes at a time when insurers are accelerating investments in artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, automation and data-led customer engagement to improve operational efficiency and enhance policyholder experiences. Tata AIA said the new leadership addition will support its ongoing efforts to strengthen technology infrastructure and drive digital innovation across the organisation.

Jobanputra brings more than two decades of experience in technology leadership across the insurance and financial services sectors. Throughout his career, he has led enterprise-wide digital transformation programmes, technology modernisation projects, business process automation initiatives and customer experience enhancements for leading insurance companies.

Before joining Tata AIA Life Insurance, Jobanputra served as Chief Technology and Data Officer at Edelweiss Life Insurance, where he oversaw technology strategy, enterprise applications and data transformation initiatives. Prior to that, he spent over 13 years at Kotak Life Insurance, leading enterprise technology programmes and digital transformation projects. His career also includes leadership roles at IDBI Federal Life Insurance, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, NSEIT and Bitsoft.

At Tata AIA, Jobanputra is expected to lead the company's technology roadmap, overseeing digital platforms, core technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise architecture and emerging technologies. He will also play a key role in expanding the insurer's use of AI, data analytics and automation to improve operational agility and customer-centric services.

The appointment aligns with broader trends across India's insurance industry, where technology has become central to business strategy. Insurers are increasingly deploying AI-powered underwriting, intelligent claims processing, fraud detection, personalised policy recommendations and conversational customer service platforms to improve efficiency while reducing operational costs.

Industry analysts note that the role of CTOs within financial services has evolved considerably over the past decade. Beyond maintaining IT systems, technology leaders are now responsible for driving enterprise innovation, integrating artificial intelligence into business processes and ensuring secure, scalable digital platforms capable of supporting evolving customer expectations.

Tata AIA has steadily expanded its digital capabilities in recent years through investments in customer self-service platforms, digital onboarding, paperless processes and data-driven operations. The insurer has also focused on improving digital distribution channels and strengthening its technology ecosystem to support faster policy issuance and enhanced customer engagement.

The growing adoption of AI across the insurance sector is expected to further reshape customer acquisition, underwriting, claims management and risk assessment. Insurers are increasingly using predictive analytics and machine learning models to improve decision-making while offering more personalised financial protection products.

Against this backdrop, experienced technology leadership has become increasingly important. Companies are seeking executives capable of balancing innovation with regulatory compliance, cybersecurity and operational resilience while accelerating enterprise-wide digital transformation.

Jobanputra's appointment reflects Tata AIA's continued focus on building a technology-driven organisation capable of responding to changing consumer expectations and evolving market dynamics. His experience in enterprise technology, digital modernisation and large-scale transformation programmes is expected to support the insurer's long-term innovation agenda.

As AI and automation continue to redefine the insurance landscape, leadership appointments such as this highlight the industry's increasing emphasis on technology as a key driver of growth, operational excellence and customer experience. For Tata AIA, strengthening its technology leadership represents another step towards expanding digital capabilities while supporting the next phase of its business transformation.
