Anthropic has agreed to spend about $45 billion on cloud computing capacity from British AI infrastructure company Nscale, marking another major investment by the Claude developer as demand for computing resources continues to grow.
The six-year agreement will give Anthropic access to approximately 460 megawatts of computing capacity at Nscale's flagship data centre development in West Virginia, according to reports citing people familiar with the matter. The infrastructure is expected to use Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin systems, with capacity scheduled to begin coming online in late 2027.
The agreement comes as Anthropic expands the infrastructure required to train and operate its AI models, including Claude and its AI coding product Claude Code. Neither Anthropic nor Nscale had publicly confirmed the reported agreement when initial reports emerged.
Nscale, founded in 2024, has rapidly expanded its position in the AI infrastructure market. The company describes itself as a full-stack AI cloud provider, combining data centres, GPU infrastructure, computing capacity and software. It has previously secured infrastructure agreements with companies including Microsoft.
The reported Nscale agreement adds to a series of infrastructure commitments made by Anthropic as it works to secure sufficient computing power for growing AI workloads.
In April, Anthropic expanded its relationship with Amazon to secure up to five gigawatts of additional computing capacity for training and deploying Claude. Under that agreement, Anthropic committed more than $100 billion over 10 years to AWS technologies. The company said it was already using more than one million Amazon Trainium2 chips.
Anthropic also announced an expanded partnership with Google and Broadcom in April for multiple gigawatts of next-generation TPU capacity expected to start coming online in 2027. The company said the additional infrastructure would support its frontier Claude models and growing customer demand.
In May, Anthropic disclosed a separate computing agreement with SpaceX, saying the partnership would substantially increase its compute capacity and allow it to raise usage limits for Claude Code and its API.
The scale of these agreements reflects the growing infrastructure requirements facing developers of advanced AI models. Training models and serving increasing volumes of consumer and enterprise queries require large clusters of specialised processors, substantial power supplies and long-term access to data centre capacity.
For Nscale, the reported Anthropic agreement would add another major AI company to its growing infrastructure portfolio. For Anthropic, the deal further diversifies its computing capacity across infrastructure providers and chip architectures as competition among leading AI companies continues to drive demand for large-scale compute.
