OpenAI Upgrades ChatGPT Ads

OpenAI has introduced a fresh set of updates to its ChatGPT Ads platform, adding conversion-focused bidding, stronger measurement capabilities and new campaign management tools as it continues expanding its advertising offering for marketers. The latest rollout brings the platform closer to the optimisation and reporting features commonly available on established digital advertising platforms, reflecting OpenAI's efforts to make ChatGPT Ads more practical for performance-driven campaigns.

Among the biggest additions is conversion optimised cost-per-click, or oCPC, bidding. Advertisers can now select a Conversions campaign objective that automatically prioritises clicks with a higher likelihood of leading to a desired action, such as a purchase, lead generation or registration, while continuing to charge on a cost-per-click basis. The feature is designed to help advertisers improve campaign efficiency without changing their existing pricing model.

The update also strengthens campaign measurement. OpenAI has expanded integrations with mobile attribution partners AppsFlyer and Adjust, enabling advertisers to measure app installs and in-app activity more effectively. In addition, Automatic Advanced Matching has been introduced to improve website conversion attribution using securely hashed customer data, helping advertisers better understand the customer journey after users click on a ChatGPT ad.

Budget management has also received an overhaul. Instead of relying on fixed daily spending limits, campaigns will now operate using an average daily budget calculated over a rolling seven day period. This allows spending to fluctuate based on performance while ensuring that overall campaign budgets remain within planned limits. OpenAI has also introduced automatic budget pacing, which distributes spending more evenly throughout the day rather than exhausting budgets during peak hours.

The latest release includes several updates aimed at simplifying campaign management for advertisers running larger accounts. Geographic exclusions now allow brands to prevent ads from appearing in selected regions, while asynchronous bulk creation and editing through the Ads API enables advertisers to manage campaigns, ad groups and ads at scale. Product feed campaigns have also been updated to display richer product cards featuring prices and star ratings.

The enhancements build on OpenAI's broader effort to develop ChatGPT Ads into a more comprehensive advertising platform. Earlier this year, the company expanded access to its self-serve Ads Manager, introduced cost-per-click bidding alongside CPM buying, and rolled out conversion measurement through the OpenAI Pixel and Conversions API. These tools allow advertisers to track actions such as purchases, sign-ups and leads after users interact with ads while supporting both browser and server-side measurement.

Industry observers note that the latest release focuses less on introducing new ad formats and more on strengthening the platform's core infrastructure. As advertisers increasingly compare ChatGPT Ads with mature platforms such as Google Ads and Meta Ads, features like automated bidding, improved attribution and scalable campaign management are likely to play an important role in adoption.

With the additions, OpenAI continues to position ChatGPT Ads as a platform that supports performance marketing while providing advertisers with more sophisticated optimisation and reporting capabilities. As the advertising ecosystem around generative AI evolves, these foundational tools are expected to help marketers measure campaign outcomes with greater precision and manage campaigns more efficiently.
