Mondelēz International has appointed Vinay Subramanyam as Vice President, Marketing for its India business, marking a key leadership transition at the snacking company as it continues to strengthen its brand and marketing operations in the market.
Subramanyam will succeed Nitin Saini, who has been elevated to a regional leadership position in Southeast Asia as General Manager, Indonesia.
The appointment brings an FMCG marketing executive with more than two decades of experience across consumer goods companies to Mondelēz India. Subramanyam joins from Kellanova, now part of Mars Snacking, where he served as Head of Marketing for South Asia and was a member of the AMEA Commercial Leadership Team.
At Kellanova, Subramanyam was responsible for category development, strategic business initiatives and the company’s brand and marketing agenda across South Asia. His role covered the development of the company’s food categories and marketing initiatives across the region.
His move to Mondelēz adds another major FMCG company to a career that has included leadership roles at Kellanova, Pidilite Industries, Britannia Industries and VIP Industries.
Subramanyam began his career in sales at VIP Industries in 2002 before moving into brand and marketing roles. His experience has since spanned category development, brand building, innovation, marketing strategy and business growth across multiple consumer categories.
Before his latest stint at Kellanova, Subramanyam served as Chief Marketing Officer at Pidilite Industries. He has also held senior positions at Britannia Industries, including Vice President of Marketing.
His association with Kellanova, formerly Kellogg Company, predates his most recent leadership role. Between 2011 and 2015, he worked with the company across sales development and category marketing. He returned to the organisation in 2023 to lead marketing for India and South Asia.
At Mondelēz India, Subramanyam enters a business with a portfolio of established snacking brands, particularly across the chocolate and biscuit categories. The company operates brands including Cadbury Dairy Milk, Cadbury Silk, Oreo, Bournvita, 5 Star and Perk in the Indian market.
The leadership transition comes as large consumer goods companies continue to adapt their marketing strategies to changing media consumption, digital commerce and evolving consumer preferences. FMCG marketers are increasingly balancing mass-market brand building with digital engagement, data-led decision-making and more fragmented consumer touchpoints.
Subramanyam’s experience across both established brands and category development gives him exposure to several of these areas as he takes responsibility for Mondelēz India’s marketing organisation.
The transition also moves Saini into a broader business leadership position. As General Manager for Indonesia, he will take responsibility for one of Mondelēz International’s Southeast Asian markets after his tenure leading marketing in India.
For Mondelēz India, the appointment places an experienced consumer marketing executive at the helm of its marketing function as the company continues to compete across India’s packaged food and snacking categories.
Subramanyam’s immediate priorities in the new position have not been detailed. His appointment, however, represents a significant marketing leadership change for the company, bringing his experience across brand building, category development and consumer goods marketing into the Mondelēz India business.
