Amar Babu, Global President, Motorola

Lenovo has appointed Amar Babu as the new Global President of Motorola and General Manager of its Mobile Business Group, effective January 1, 2027. Babu, who currently serves as Lenovo's Senior Vice President and President of Asia Pacific, will take charge of Motorola's global operations as the company expands its portfolio of intelligent devices and AI-enabled consumer experiences.

In his new role, Babu will oversee Motorola's business strategy, with a focus on strengthening its premium smartphone portfolio, expanding market share and developing connected device experiences across international markets.

According to Lenovo, the appointment is part of its broader personal AI strategy, which aims to integrate artificial intelligence capabilities across consumer and enterprise devices.

The company has identified the United States, India and Japan as key markets for Motorola's continued expansion.

Babu will report to Luca Rossi, Lenovo's Executive Vice President and President of the Intelligent Devices Group. Rossi will continue serving as acting Motorola Global President until the end of 2026.

During the transition, Babu will retain his responsibilities as President of Asia Pacific while working with Motorola's leadership team to prepare for his new position.

Babu has led Lenovo's Asia Pacific operations for more than five years, overseeing business development across personal computing, mobile devices, infrastructure and services.

Under his leadership, Lenovo maintained its leading position in the region's PC market, while Motorola expanded its smartphone presence in several markets.

According to the company, Motorola has reached nearly 9% market share in India and secured the second position among smartphone manufacturers in Japan.

Lenovo's infrastructure business also recorded profitable growth and approached double-digit market share during the period.

Meanwhile, the company's Solutions and Services business increased the contribution of advanced services to more than 50% of its overall services mix.

Commenting on the appointment, Rossi said Babu's experience across sales, operations, customer relationships and business management would support Motorola's global growth plans.

"Amar is a strong leader and has driven consistent results," Rossi said, expressing confidence in his ability to lead Motorola's next phase of development.

Lenovo also indicated that its priorities would include expanding Motorola's premium device portfolio and developing more integrated experiences across its product ecosystem.

Babu joined Lenovo in 2007 and has held several leadership positions covering business management, operations, services and regional market development.

Before joining Lenovo, he worked with Intel, HCL and Citibank in management, operational and technical roles.

The leadership transition comes as Lenovo continues to position artificial intelligence as a component of its device strategy, including smartphones and other connected products.

The company has not announced a successor for Babu's Asia Pacific position or provided further details about potential organisational changes following his appointment.
