Vi Intelligence Lab

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has partnered with PwC India to launch Vi Intelligence Lab, an initiative aimed at developing and scaling artificial intelligence solutions for enterprises, customers and the telecom operator's internal operations.

Announced on November 4, the partnership forms part of Vodafone Idea's broader Vi Intelligence proposition, which focuses on integrating AI capabilities across business processes and customer-facing services.

The initiative will combine Vodafone Idea's digital infrastructure with PwC India's expertise in AI transformation to develop applications addressing business and operational requirements across industries.

As part of the collaboration, PwC India will establish a dedicated Centre of Excellence team, co-located with Vodafone Idea in Mumbai. The team will support the development, incubation and deployment of enterprise AI solutions.

The lab is also intended to bring together AI specialists, startups, research organisations and enterprises to identify business challenges and develop technology-led solutions.

According to the companies, Vi Intelligence Lab will operate across three strategic areas: agentic AI, assistive AI, and sovereign and responsible AI.

Agentic AI refers to systems capable of carrying out multistep tasks and making decisions within defined parameters, while assistive AI focuses on supporting employees and customers through AI-enabled tools.

The sovereign and responsible AI component will address considerations associated with governance, accountability and the deployment of AI systems.

The initiative will focus on improving customer engagement, service experiences and cross-functional business processes. It will also examine how enterprises can move beyond conventional automation towards more autonomous workflows.

Jagbir Singh, Chief Technology Officer at Vodafone Idea, said the telecom industry was increasingly moving beyond connectivity towards intelligence-driven services.

"Telecom has long played a critical role in connecting people, businesses and devices, but the future belongs to intelligence," Singh said.

He added that the lab would bring together AI expertise, strategic partnerships and Vodafone Idea's digital infrastructure to support the development of AI applications.

Vinish Bawa, Partner and Leader, Technology, Media and Telecommunications at PwC India, said the collaboration would focus on translating AI capabilities into practical enterprise applications.

"Through Vi Intelligence Lab, PwC India will bring its deep experience in agentic transformation to help organisations translate AI potential into real-world capabilities," Bawa said.

Beyond developing technology solutions, the partnership will also support AI skilling and capability-building programmes intended to help employees and organisations adopt emerging technologies.

The initiative reflects Vodafone Idea's plans to expand the application of AI across consumer services, enterprise operations and internal processes.

The companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the partnership, the number of enterprises expected to participate or specific timelines for commercial deployment.

Further details on individual solutions and their implementation are expected as the lab develops its programmes.
