UNIVO Education has launched an AI Readiness Initiative aimed at building artificial intelligence literacy and practical AI skills across India, as the country expands efforts to prepare its workforce for an increasingly AI-led economy.
The initiative follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day announcement outlining plans to provide AI training to one crore, or 10 million, young Indians. UNIVO said its programme is intended to support the broader push to widen access to AI skills across different age groups and professional backgrounds.
The programme begins with free, self-paced foundational courses covering AI fundamentals, prompting, responsible use and everyday productivity. The courses are designed for learners without a technical background and do not require coding knowledge. Participants can subsequently move to applied, role-based certifications and advanced specialisation programmes.
Rather than treating AI solely as a technical discipline, UNIVO said its certifications will focus on how the technology can be applied to tasks performed within specific professional roles. The programme targets a broad group of learners, including students preparing to enter the workforce, early-career professionals and experienced employees adapting to AI-enabled workplaces.
Nitin Golani, CEO of UNIVO Education, said AI usage could become as fundamental a skill as using a phone within the next few years. He added that making the foundation course free was intended to reduce affordability as a barrier to acquiring basic AI skills.
The company is also developing AI-readiness offerings for enterprises seeking to train their workforces and educational institutions integrating AI into teaching and learning. UNIVO's applied certifications will carry university-backed credentials through its partnership with Amity University Online.
The initiative comes alongside government-led programmes aimed at expanding India's AI talent base. Under the IndiaAI Mission, the IndiaAI FutureSkills programme is developing AI education pathways through courses and fellowships, while Data and AI Labs are being established to broaden access to emerging technologies beyond major urban centres.
India has increasingly positioned AI skills as part of its broader education, employment and technology strategy. The government has also emphasised expanding AI access beyond metropolitan centres and preparing young people for changing workforce requirements.
UNIVO's programme adds a private-sector skilling initiative to this wider ecosystem, with its focus extending from foundational AI awareness to role-specific applications and enterprise workforce training.
