Rajat Pandit, Lead Applied AI in India, Anthropic

Anthropic has appointed former Google Cloud executive Rajat Pandit to lead Applied AI for India, strengthening the artificial intelligence company's focus on deploying its technology across businesses and institutions in the country.

Pandit joins Anthropic after spending nearly eight years at Google Cloud, where his work spanned cloud infrastructure, AI, customer engineering and enterprise technology. In his new role, he will focus on translating AI capabilities into practical applications for organisations operating in the Indian market.

Announcing the move, Pandit said the role would allow him to apply his experience in scaling cloud and AI infrastructure to the deployment of artificial intelligence across Indian enterprises and institutions.

The appointment gives Anthropic an executive with experience across both the technical and commercial sides of enterprise technology. During his time at Google Cloud, Pandit worked with enterprises and startups on cloud adoption and technology transformation, while also gaining experience in technical sales and customer engineering.

Pandit has previously served as Head of Customer Engineering for Digital Natives and Emerging Startups at Google in India. His career also includes engineering and technology roles across companies such as Tesco, Accenture, Time Inc. and Yahoo.

His move comes as Anthropic continues to build its enterprise AI business around Claude, its family of generative AI models. The company has increasingly positioned Claude for professional and organisational use cases, including coding, data analysis, research, customer support and other knowledge-intensive workflows.

Applied AI has become an important part of competition among model developers as companies move beyond providing access to large language models and focus on helping businesses integrate AI into existing operations. Enterprise deployment can involve connecting models with internal data, applications and workflows while addressing security, governance and reliability requirements.

Pandit's appointment places that implementation focus at the centre of Anthropic's India strategy. His role is expected to involve working on how the company's AI capabilities can be deployed across businesses and institutions, drawing on his previous experience with cloud infrastructure and enterprise customers.

India has become an increasingly important market for global AI companies because of its large developer ecosystem, expanding digital economy and growing enterprise interest in generative AI. Technology companies are competing not only for consumer adoption but also for organisations seeking to move AI projects from experimentation into production.

For Anthropic, the appointment also adds local leadership as it competes with companies including OpenAI and Google in the broader generative AI market. The competition is increasingly extending from model capabilities to enterprise adoption, developer ecosystems and the ability to integrate AI into business processes.

Pandit's transition also marks a shift in his career from helping organisations adopt and scale cloud infrastructure towards a role focused more directly on applied artificial intelligence.
