Meta has acquired Conductor, an artificial intelligence coding startup that enables software developers to run multiple AI agents simultaneously across separate workspaces. The acquisition adds to Meta's investments in agentic AI as the company expands its capabilities in automated software development.
The transaction was confirmed on November 4, with Conductor founder and CEO Charlie Holtz announcing that the startup would join Meta. Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
Founded in 2024, Conductor develops a platform that allows software engineers to divide coding projects into smaller tasks and assign them to AI agents operating in parallel.
The platform enables multiple agents to work on different components of a software project while maintaining separate environments. This approach is designed to help developers coordinate coding activities that would otherwise require sequential execution.
Conductor's agents can operate through local systems, cloud environments and mobile devices. Rather than developing its own underlying AI models, the company uses models from providers including OpenAI and Anthropic.
The startup launched its core product in the summer of 2026, making the acquisition a relatively early development in its commercial operations.
Announcing the transaction, Holtz indicated that the team was preparing a new product experience expected to become available in early 2027. However, he did not provide details about its functionality or how Conductor's technology would be integrated into Meta's existing services.
Holtz also expressed interest in working with Alexandr Wang, Meta's Chief AI Officer, and Nat Friedman, who leads product at Meta Superintelligence Labs.
Meta confirmed the acquisition but did not provide further information about the transaction or the future structure of Conductor's operations.
For existing users, Conductor's core features will remain available in their current form until early next year.
However, the company has announced that its cloud service will shut down on November 20, 2026. Conductor said it would begin deleting users' cloud data after the shutdown, making the transition relevant for developers currently using its hosted environments.
The acquisition follows Meta's introduction of Muse Code, its own AI coding agent, in August 2026.
The company has also expanded its broader AI agent offerings. According to Meta, its recently introduced Muse agents have surpassed 10 million users, indicating adoption of the company's agent-based services.
Meta has undertaken several AI-related acquisitions as part of its wider technology strategy, including the acquisition of Moltbook, an online platform associated with AI agents.
The Conductor transaction adds a development-focused platform to Meta's growing portfolio of agentic AI technologies.
While the acquisition indicates continued investment in AI-assisted coding, Meta has not disclosed whether Conductor's existing product will remain independently available after the planned 2027 launch.
Further details about the new product, integration plans and commercial availability have yet to be announced.
