Gemini’s new personal context setting now allows the chatbot to remember users’ past conversations automatically—without needing explicit prompts—making exchanges more contextually relevant and human-like. At the same time, Google has added Temporary Chats, an incognito-style mode designed for private or one-off interactions. These chats are not saved in the user’s history, nor are they used to train Gemini’s models. Instead, they are held for just 72 hours and then deleted.

In addition to memory upgrades, Google has rebranded the Gemini Apps Activity setting as Keep Activity. When enabled, user-uploaded content like files and photos may contribute to improving Gemini and other services—but only if users give explicit consent. The setting remains off by default, and users who keep it disabled will stay excluded from such data-sharing loops.
Temporary Chats complement memory features by offering data-free conversation paths. These ephemeral interactions are excluded from personalization, hidden from chat history, and are erased automatically after three days. This makes them ideal for sensitive or exploratory conversations.
