US-based local commerce platform DoorDash has opened its first office in India in Hyderabad, with plans to expand its workforce from 500 professionals to more than 3,000 over the next two years.
Located in HITEC City, the new talent hub will support DoorDash's global operations and initially house its Customer Experience and Integrity (CXI) and General and Administrative teams. The centre will work across the company's consumer, merchant and delivery partner operations in international markets.
The Hyderabad facility will become DoorDash's third company-owned CXI service centre globally, joining existing operations in Tempe, Arizona, and Mexico City. The centre will function as an extension of the company's global customer support organisation, with specialised capabilities in areas such as integrity, fraud review and technical operations expected to be added over time.
DoorDash said employees at the Hyderabad hub will support its global platform, which serves more than 56 million monthly active consumers across geographies with a combined population of over one billion people. The company currently operates across more than 40 countries and processes more than three billion orders annually.
The facility was inaugurated by Telangana Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, Industries and Commerce D Sridhar Babu. DoorDash Chief Financial Officer Ravi Inukonda, Senior Director of Workforce Strategy and Talent Acquisition Operations Jenna Kohnke and Telangana government IT Advisor Sai Krishna were also present.
Kohnke said establishing the company's first hub in India marked an important step in expanding DoorDash's global operations network. She cited Hyderabad's technology ecosystem, talent pool and environment for global capability centres as factors behind the company's decision to establish the facility in the city.
The Hyderabad hub also adds DoorDash to a growing group of multinational companies building global capability and operations teams in the city. According to the Telangana government, Hyderabad currently hosts more than 500 GCCs employing over 500,000 people.
The state is targeting more than 100 additional GCCs, which it expects could create over 100,000 high-value jobs and more than 300,000 indirect jobs. The government expects Hyderabad's GCC workforce to reach one million by 2029.
DoorDash's Hyderabad expansion is focused on supporting its international business rather than launching its consumer delivery marketplace in India. The centre gives the company an India-based talent operation for customer experience, integrity, administration and potentially more specialised technical functions as its global operations expand.
