TikTok is rolling out an artificial intelligence-powered shopping assistant alongside a new one-click checkout feature, bringing product discovery, shopping guidance and purchases closer together within its main app.
The new Shopping Assistant is a conversational AI agent designed to help users find and purchase products. TikTok said the assistant can understand the context of a conversation and remember a user's preferences and requirements as the interaction progresses.
Users can ask the assistant questions about products and receive information covering details such as sizing, availability and shipping. The AI can also guide shoppers through the purchasing process, reducing the need to leave TikTok to search for additional information before making a decision.
TikTok is pairing the assistant with an in-app checkout feature that allows users to purchase directly from participating brands through the For You feed. The feature is intended to shorten the path between seeing a product in a video and completing a transaction.
The company is developing the shopping capabilities with commerce and payment technology providers including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe. These partnerships are expected to help connect brands' existing commerce infrastructure with TikTok's discovery and checkout experience.
The rollout broadens TikTok's commerce strategy beyond TikTok Shop, its existing in-app marketplace. Rather than requiring shopping activity to remain centred on a dedicated commerce section, the company is integrating purchasing capabilities more closely into its algorithm-driven For You feed, where users already discover products through creator and brand content.
The expansion comes as TikTok continues to build its role in social commerce. According to the company's Economic Impact Report, 54 million Americans said they had purchased a product after seeing it in a TikTok video. TikTok also said activity on its platform contributed $81 billion to US gross domestic product generated by businesses.
TikTok Shop, which launched in the US in September 2023, has also grown into a sizeable commerce business. Market research firm eMarketer estimated that the platform generated about $15.8 billion in US sales during 2025, representing roughly 18% of the country's social commerce market.
By combining conversational AI with direct checkout, TikTok is extending its role from product discovery towards product research and transaction. The approach also reflects a wider shift among digital platforms towards using AI agents to help consumers navigate purchase decisions while keeping more of the shopping journey within a single service.
