OpenAI has introduced Intelligent UI in ChatGPT alongside the wider rollout of GPT-6, allowing the AI chatbot to generate interactive responses that combine text, visuals and functional tools within a single conversation.
Announced on October 7, 2026, the update enables ChatGPT to present information through diagrams, charts, graphics, forms and clickable buttons, depending on the nature of a user's query. The feature is designed to move beyond conventional text-based responses by adapting how information is displayed and accessed.
According to OpenAI, GPT-6 has been trained to determine when visual or interactive elements can improve a response. For example, product comparisons can appear in side-by-side layouts, while explanations of complex subjects may include diagrams that users can explore.
The company said ChatGPT will continue providing straightforward text responses when additional visual elements are unnecessary.
Intelligent UI also introduces the ability to create functional tools directly within conversations. Users can request calculators, bill-splitting applications and simple games without moving to separate websites or software.
For planning-related queries, the system can combine written information with visual components. A travel itinerary, for instance, may include an interactive map showing destinations and suggested stops, while educational explanations can allow users to adjust inputs and observe corresponding changes.
OpenAI said the feature uses a library of interface components and a compiler that processes layouts as responses are generated. This allows interactive elements to appear progressively rather than requiring users to wait for the entire response.
Alongside the interface update, GPT-6 introduces changes to response delivery. ChatGPT can begin answering while continuing to process information or use tools, enabling users to read initial findings before additional details become available.
The company also reported improvements in response speed and how the model communicates its limitations, including circumstances where it lacks sufficient information or access to required tools.
OpenAI said it conducted safety and alignment evaluations during GPT-6's development, focusing on the model's ability to follow instructions, communicate accurately and respond appropriately to restricted requests.
The global rollout began on October 7 for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, with access expanding to Free and Go users from October 8. Enterprise availability remains subject to workspace administrator settings.
GPT-6 Sol powers the updated experience for eligible paid users, while GPT-6 Luna serves Free and Go users. OpenAI clarified that the rollout applies to ChatGPT's conversational interface and does not change the models powering Work and Codex.
The update extends ChatGPT's capabilities beyond generating written answers, allowing users to interact with information and complete certain tasks directly within the conversation.
