Online learning platform Coursera has appointed Amy Weisenbach as its Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), effective November 30, 2026, as the company prepares to expand its global learning business through its integration with Udemy.
Weisenbach joins Coursera after serving as Chief Marketing Officer at The New York Times, where she oversaw marketing across the company's portfolio of digital products and subscription services.
In her new role, she will focus on strengthening Coursera's marketing strategy, expanding its reach among learners and supporting customer engagement across its education offerings. Her appointment comes as the company works to bring Coursera and Udemy together into a broader skills development platform.
At The New York Times, Weisenbach led marketing initiatives across several business verticals, including News, Games, Cooking, Audio, Wirecutter and The Athletic.
Her responsibilities included developing brand campaigns, expanding audience engagement, supporting subscription growth and introducing products to new consumer segments.
The company said her experience in combining brand marketing with performance-led strategies would support Coursera's efforts to attract learners and strengthen engagement with its global user base.
Greg Hart, Chief Executive Officer of Coursera, said Weisenbach's experience in building digital businesses and developing consumer relationships would be relevant to the company's next phase of growth.
He highlighted her work at The New York Times, where marketing initiatives supported audience acquisition, digital engagement and subscription-based business development.
Commenting on her appointment, Weisenbach said Coursera's mission aligned with her experience as both a marketing professional and an educator.
She said she looked forward to working with the leadership team to help learners discover educational opportunities across Coursera and Udemy while developing stronger relationships with the platform's global community.
Before joining The New York Times, Weisenbach led global marketing at Wilson Sporting Goods. She also held marketing positions at Beam Suntory and Unilever, gaining experience across consumer brands and international markets.
Alongside her corporate responsibilities, Weisenbach has worked in higher education. She previously served as an adjunct assistant professor at New York University's Stern School of Business, where she taught brand strategy and consumer behaviour.
She currently serves on the Board of Trustees at DePauw University.
Weisenbach holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School and a bachelor's degree in Public Policy from DePauw University.
The appointment comes as Coursera expands its focus on skills development amid changes in workforce requirements, including growing demand for artificial intelligence and technology-related learning.
Coursera has been developing its course offerings and learning tools to address these requirements, while the integration with Udemy is expected to broaden its educational portfolio.
Weisenbach will assume responsibility for the company's marketing leadership from November 30, with a focus on audience development, brand positioning and engagement across its learning ecosystem.
