German specialty chemicals and biotechnology company WACKER has established a Global Capability Center in Pune in collaboration with HCLTech, expanding its engineering, IT and digital transformation capabilities in India.
The new GCC will support WACKER's global technology and engineering requirements while providing a flexible and resilient delivery foundation. The centre will also contribute to the company's digital modernisation initiatives and development of longer-term operational capabilities.
The Pune facility will be developed through a phased, customer-centric operating model. HCLTech will support WACKER in establishing and scaling the centre, with its technology capabilities being deployed across areas including DevSecOps and automation. The partnership will also focus on strengthening governance, improving operational efficiency and building a high-performing technology and engineering team.
Fabian Seibold, Director, WACKER Excellence Hub Pune, said the GCC represents an important step in strengthening the company's global delivery and digital execution capabilities. He added that HCLTech's experience in building and scaling capability centres would support an operating model focused on agility, governance and long-term growth.
The development expands an existing relationship between WACKER and HCLTech. In 2021, the companies entered a five-year IT transformation engagement aimed at modernising WACKER's digital workplace and improving service delivery. The programme included modernisation, standardisation and automation, along with the use of AI-enabled virtual assistants.
Dr. Frank Fehler, Executive Vice President and Country Head, Germany at HCLTech, said the expanded engagement marks another milestone in WACKER's digital transformation and builds on the strategic partnership between the two companies.
Kiran Cherukuri, EVP and Global GCC Practice Head at HCLTech, said the company would use a phased operating model to establish the centre. He added that HCLTech's DevSecOps and automation capabilities would be used to improve operational efficiency and accelerate digital modernisation.
WACKER operates 27 production sites, 22 technical competence centres and 47 sales offices globally. The company employs more than 16,000 people and generated approximately €5.5 billion in sales during fiscal 2025. Its operations span Silicones, Polymers, Biosolutions and Polysilicon, with products serving industries including automotive, construction, consumer goods, medical technology, semiconductors and photovoltaics.
HCLTech, meanwhile, employs more than 223,000 people across 60 countries and provides services across AI, digital, engineering, cloud and software. Its revenue for the 12 months ended June 2026 stood at $14.8 billion.
The Pune centre adds to India's expanding GCC ecosystem, with multinational companies increasingly using such centres for engineering, technology development, automation and enterprise transformation rather than primarily back-office operations.
