Wipro Turns to AI Agent

Wipro has integrated an AI-powered conversational agent called iSkill into its internal AI Academy, aiming to personalise learning recommendations for more than 240,000 associates based on their roles, skills and previous certifications.

The technology services company developed its AI Academy three years ago as part of an effort to build an AI-ready workforce. The platform offers 144 persona-based learning paths alongside hundreds of artificial intelligence and cloud courses sourced from thousands of partner platforms.

Despite the breadth of learning content, Wipro found that employees could face difficulty identifying where to begin. The earlier experience relied heavily on searching for courses and going through individual descriptions, creating a more fragmented process for learners.

To address this, the company began developing iSkill in December 2025. The conversational agent operates through Microsoft 365 Copilot and Teams and is designed to act as a personalised guide to Wipro's existing learning catalogue.

Once employees sign in using their Wipro Teams identity, iSkill can use information including their role, band, function and skills, as well as completed AI and cloud certifications. A Power BI semantic model retrieves relevant employee information, while the agent searches the AI Academy catalogue hosted on SharePoint to recommend suitable courses.

Wipro has also introduced controls governing how employee information can be accessed. The company said access to the system is limited through a validated security group, while role-based controls are intended to prevent managers from viewing individual employee learning data.

Since its launch, iSkill has recorded more than 7,500 conversations and over 100 active unique learners. Wipro also said that 96% of AI Advanced+ courses at its AI Academy were completed between January 2025 and March 2026.

Surya Prakash Mohapatra, General Manager and AI Learning Head, Talent Skilling at Wipro, said the personalised recommendations are intended to improve alignment between learning and business priorities by making course suggestions more relevant to individual roles.

The initiative comes as Wipro continues to expand AI capabilities across its workforce. In its FY2025-26 filings, the company said it was building an AI-ready workforce covering more than 240,000 employees and had enabled over 180 AI learning pathways across different proficiency levels. More than 60,000 associates were also using AI developer tools.

The deployment of iSkill marks a shift from providing employees with a large catalogue of digital courses towards using conversational AI to guide them through learning options based on their existing skills and professional requirements.
