LinkedIn has introduced a new reporting feature that allows users to flag posts they believe are low-quality, AI-generated content, commonly referred to as "AI slop." The move marks the latest step in the professional networking platform's efforts to preserve authentic conversations as generative AI becomes increasingly embedded in content creation.
The new option, labelled "Seems like AI slop," appears within LinkedIn's reporting menu for eligible posts. Users who select the option can privately notify the platform when they believe a post lacks originality or appears to have been generated largely through artificial intelligence without meaningful human input. Once reported, the post is hidden from the reporting user's feed while LinkedIn uses the feedback to improve its moderation systems and content quality initiatives.
The feature arrives amid growing concerns over the volume of AI-generated content appearing on professional social networks. A recent study by AI detection company Pangram estimated that approximately 41% of long-form LinkedIn posts are fully AI-generated, while shorter posts also show significant AI usage. The findings have fuelled debate over how generative AI is changing online professional communication and whether platforms should distinguish between AI-assisted writing and automated content lacking original insights.

The company is also replacing its previous AI-powered "enhance your post" feature with a proofreading tool designed to preserve a user's original voice. The decision reflects a broader shift in LinkedIn's product strategy as it seeks to encourage thoughtful content rather than highly polished but formulaic AI-generated posts.
