Google Offers Indian College Students Free Gemini AI Plus

Google is offering eligible college students in India a free one-year subscription to its Google AI Plus plan, expanding access to Gemini and other AI-powered tools as the company increases its focus on students and education.

The offer provides 12 months of Google AI Plus at no charge. The plan ordinarily costs Rs 399 per month in India, putting the annual value of the subscription at about Rs 4,800. Eligible students must redeem the offer by December 31, 2026.

To qualify, users must be at least 16 years old and enrolled at a higher education institution in a supported market. Google requires students to verify their status using a valid school email address when requested. They also need a personal Google Account, a Google Payments account and a qualifying payment method at sign-up.

Google AI Plus provides higher usage limits than the company's free tier and access to additional AI features. In India, the plan currently includes more access to Gemini 3.1 Pro and Deep Research, along with image, music and video generation capabilities. Subscribers can also use Gemini within Google applications and receive expanded access to Gemini Notebook.

The subscription additionally provides 400 GB of cloud storage across Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos. Google says the Plus tier offers twice the Gemini usage access available under its free plan, although usage limits can vary depending on the models and features being used.

The latest student offer follows Google's earlier push to make its premium AI tools available to learners in India. In July 2025, the company offered students aged 18 and above a free one-year Google AI Pro subscription, which included Gemini 2.5 Pro, Deep Research, NotebookLM, Veo 3 and 2 TB of cloud storage.

Google later said more than two million students across India had gained access to its advanced AI tools through the programme. The company also said India had become Gemini's largest global user base among people aged 18 to 24, highlighting the country's growing importance for its education-focused AI strategy.

Alongside subscription offers, Google has continued to expand Gemini's learning capabilities. Its education tools include Guided Learning and features designed to help students work with research materials, quizzes and study content. The company is also bringing its AI Research Foundations curriculum to India as part of a broader effort to develop AI skills among students and future technology professionals.

The one-year AI Plus offer gives Google another route to put Gemini into students' academic workflows while introducing younger users to its wider AI ecosystem.
