Sangeeta Bavi, Lead AI Growth, Anthropic India

Anthropic has strengthened its leadership team in India with the appointment of Sangeeta Bavi as Head of Digital Natives, Startups and Growth, a move that underscores the artificial intelligence company's growing focus on one of the world's fastest-expanding technology markets.

The appointment comes as Anthropic accelerates efforts to build relationships with startups, digital-first businesses and emerging technology companies seeking to integrate generative AI into products, services and operations. India has become an increasingly important market for global AI firms due to its large developer base, growing startup ecosystem and rising enterprise technology investments.

In her new role, Bavi will be responsible for expanding Anthropic's engagement with startups, venture-backed companies and digital-native businesses. She is expected to work closely with founders, developers and technology leaders to support the adoption of Anthropic's AI models and tools, including its Claude family of large language models.

Bavi brings more than two decades of experience across technology, digital innovation and startup ecosystems. Before joining Anthropic, she held leadership positions at Microsoft, Nokia and YourStory, where she worked on business growth, ecosystem development and technology adoption initiatives. Her experience is expected to support Anthropic's efforts to establish deeper ties with India's rapidly evolving innovation landscape.

The appointment is part of a broader expansion strategy by Anthropic in India. The company recently named Irina Ghose as Managing Director for India and announced plans to establish its first office in Bengaluru. It has also strengthened its local leadership through appointments across partnerships and business development functions as demand for enterprise AI solutions continues to rise.

Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI executives Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei, Anthropic has emerged as one of the leading players in the global AI industry. The company has attracted significant investments from major technology companies including Amazon and Google and has positioned itself as a key competitor in the rapidly growing generative AI market.

Anthropic's Claude models are increasingly being used across business applications such as customer support, content generation, software development, workflow automation and knowledge management. As organizations move from experimentation to deployment, AI companies are focusing on building local ecosystems that can help accelerate adoption and implementation.

India has become a strategic battleground for global AI companies looking to expand their reach. With millions of software developers, a vibrant startup environment and increasing investment in digital infrastructure, the country is viewed as a major growth opportunity for AI model providers and cloud technology firms. Several global AI companies have expanded hiring, partnerships and leadership teams in India over the past year to capture growing demand.

Industry analysts note that startups represent a particularly important segment for AI adoption. Young companies often move quickly in integrating emerging technologies and can serve as early adopters for new AI tools and platforms. Building strong relationships with founders and developers is therefore becoming a critical part of growth strategies for AI providers.

Anthropic's investment in local leadership reflects a broader trend among global technology companies seeking closer engagement with regional ecosystems. Rather than relying solely on global operations, companies are increasingly establishing country-specific teams that can address local business requirements, regulatory considerations and market opportunities.

The latest appointment also highlights the growing importance of partnerships and ecosystem development in the AI sector. As competition among AI providers intensifies, success is increasingly tied not only to model performance but also to the ability to build strong developer communities, startup networks and enterprise relationships.

With Bavi joining its India leadership team, Anthropic is expected to further expand its presence across the country's startup and innovation ecosystem as it seeks to strengthen adoption of its AI technologies and support long-term growth in the region.
