SDNB Vaishnav College for Women in Chennai has launched an Agentic AI Campus initiative, becoming the first college in Tamil Nadu to adopt Gemini Enterprise alongside Digital Campus on Google Cloud's Agentic Premier Tier. The initiative is aimed at integrating artificial intelligence into teaching, learning, research and campus operations.
The programme was launched on September 23 as Shrimathi Devkunvar Nanalal Bhatt Vaishnav College for Women marks its 59th year. The initiative is being implemented with support from Google Cloud, Deloitte, Ankercloud and DoyenAI.
As part of the programme, students and faculty will gain access to AI capabilities designed to support academic and institutional workflows. Gemini Enterprise, Google Cloud's AI platform for organisations, enables users to work with AI assistants and agents that can access connected institutional information and support multi-step tasks.
The college plans to explore the technology for preparing learning material, academic research and exploration, helping students understand concepts and supporting routine administrative activities. The implementation will also include faculty enablement and hands-on AI learning for students.
Nimish Tolia, Secretary and Managing Trustee of SDNB Vaishnav College for Women, said the institution is working towards becoming an AI-first campus while using the technology to strengthen education, industry connections and administration. He added that the objective is to enable students to think critically with AI rather than use the technology only as an automated tool.
The initiative also places an emphasis on responsible AI adoption and academic integrity. Students will be encouraged to critically evaluate AI-generated information and use the technology to support their learning rather than replace independent thinking.
Deloitte will support the programme through hackathons and AI enablement initiatives aimed at helping students develop practical skills. Ankercloud, a Google Cloud partner, will support platform deployment and training for students and faculty.
The programme has a particular focus on increasing women's participation in an AI-driven workforce. Students across disciplines are expected to receive opportunities to work with emerging AI technologies and develop skills relevant to employment, higher education and entrepreneurship.
The launch reflects the growing adoption of generative and agentic AI across India's education sector. While generative AI tools largely focus on producing or analysing content, agentic systems can perform multi-step workflows and take actions based on defined objectives.
For SDNB Vaishnav College, the initiative will provide a campus-level environment for exploring these capabilities while assessing how AI can be incorporated into academic and administrative processes under responsible-use practices.
