OneRail has launched an artificial intelligence-powered delivery platform built with Nvidia technology, aiming to help retailers make faster decisions on how individual orders should reach customers while managing the cost of last-mile delivery.
Called OmniSTAR, the platform evaluates available delivery options across internal fleets, couriers, parcel services and other transportation modes. It then selects an option based on factors including cost and service requirements for each order.
The system combines Nvidia's GPU-accelerated technology with OneRail's delivery data. OneRail said the platform uses Nvidia cuOpt, a decision optimisation engine, alongside Nvidia cuDF for data processing and accelerated computing infrastructure.
OneRail told CNBC that a delivery routing decision that previously took around 20 minutes can now be completed in approximately two-and-a-half minutes using the new system. In its launch announcement, the company said some optimisation problems could be processed as much as 10 times faster than with conventional systems. These performance figures are based on OneRail's own assessments.
The platform draws on OneRail's proprietary pricing and delivery performance data, generated from millions of deliveries. The company's wider network includes more than 12 million drivers and over 1,000 logistics partners, providing data across different delivery modes and operating conditions.
OneRail CEO Bill Catania said faster decision-making could help retailers manage the high costs associated with last-mile fulfilment. The company is positioning OmniSTAR as a way for enterprise retailers, wholesalers and distributors to offer faster delivery without relying entirely on static rules or manual planning.
The platform is already being used by select enterprise customers. OneRail said US Foods has used the technology to identify delivery configurations that were affecting margins, including cases where lower-margin products were being transported over long distances using higher-cost equipment.
OneRail also told CNBC that another customer, described as a large tyre distributor, achieved $40 million in run-rate savings over three years. The figure was reported by the company and has not been independently verified.
The launch follows a multi-year collaboration between OneRail and Nvidia through the Nvidia Inception programme. The companies have also worked with Nvidia's cuOpt engineering team on applying accelerated optimisation to last-mile logistics.
Earlier this year, FedEx selected OneRail as the technology and network partner for its FedEx SameDay Local service, expanding OneRail's role in the same-day delivery market.
The launch reflects a wider push to apply AI to logistics operations, where retailers are increasingly using real-time data and automated decision-making to balance delivery speed, capacity and costs.
