Milacron has inaugurated its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Coimbatore, expanding its engineering presence in India as global companies continue to build technology and product development capabilities in the country.
The facility, inaugurated on July 20, has been purpose-built to accommodate a growing team of more than 60 engineers. Milacron said the centre is expected to strengthen its ability to support customers locally while expanding its engineering and innovation capabilities.
The Coimbatore centre represents an expansion of the company's engineering footprint, with teams expected to work alongside Milacron's wider engineering and product development operations. The facility will support areas including engineering, product development, design and digital capabilities, according to industry reports.
Milacron manufactures plastics processing equipment and technologies, including injection moulding and extrusion systems. The company's operations serve customers across industries such as automotive, packaging, medical and consumer products.
Suraj Thodimarath, Managing Director of Milacron India, formally inaugurated the new office in the presence of members of the company's leadership team. The opening also included addresses from senior executives including CEO Mac Jones, MTS CFO Tim Mulligan, CHRO and Vice President Kristen Jackson, and Vice President of Technology and Innovation Andy Stirn.
The executives highlighted the role of the new centre in expanding Milacron's global engineering capabilities. The company said the facility and its engineering workforce are expected to contribute to its broader innovation efforts.
The choice of Coimbatore also adds to the growing presence of Global Capability Centres outside India's largest technology hubs. The city has been emerging as one of the locations being considered for engineering-led GCC operations, particularly in areas connected with manufacturing and industrial technology.
Milacron already has an established presence in India, including manufacturing operations in Ahmedabad and other facilities in the country.
The new centre comes as the role of GCCs in India continues to expand beyond traditional shared services. Companies are increasingly using their India centres for functions such as product engineering, digital technologies, research and development, analytics and other specialised capabilities.
For Milacron, the Coimbatore facility extends this model into its global engineering operations, while also increasing the role of its India-based talent in product development and innovation.
