Goldman Sachs

Goldman Sachs has sold shares worth ₹168.67 crore in Eternal, the parent company of Zomato and Blinkit, through a block deal, with BofA Securities acquiring an equivalent number of shares in the transaction.

According to exchange data reported on October 16, Goldman Sachs sold 53,37,584 shares of Eternal at ₹316 per share. BofA Securities purchased the same number of shares at the identical price, representing approximately 0.05% of the company's paid-up equity.

The transaction marks another instance of institutional trading activity in Eternal, which operates across India's food delivery and quick-commerce markets. The reasons behind Goldman Sachs' decision to sell and BofA Securities' acquisition have not been disclosed.

The latest deal follows other large share transactions involving Eternal in recent months. On August 31, investors sold shares worth approximately ₹3,265 crore through bulk deals.

During those transactions, BNP Paribas Financial Markets sold 5.09 crore shares valued at ₹1,670.86 crore. Integrated Core Strategies (Asia), an affiliate of Millennium Management, also sold 4.86 crore shares worth approximately ₹1,593.96 crore.

The transactions come as Eternal continues to expand its operations through Zomato and Blinkit. While Zomato operates in the online food delivery segment, Blinkit focuses on quick commerce, delivering groceries and other everyday products through its network of fulfilment centres.

Blinkit competes with platforms including Swiggy Instamart and Zepto, with companies in the segment investing in store expansion, logistics infrastructure and delivery capabilities to serve growing demand.

Eternal's recent financial results indicate revenue growth across its operations. For the first quarter of FY27, the company reported revenue from operations of ₹20,211 crore, compared with ₹7,167 crore during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

Its consolidated net profit increased to ₹92 crore from ₹25 crore on a year-on-year basis. However, profit declined sequentially from ₹174 crore recorded in the March quarter.

For the full financial year FY26, Eternal reported revenue from operations of ₹54,364 crore, compared with ₹20,243 crore in FY25. Despite the increase in revenue, net profit declined to ₹366 crore from ₹527 crore during the same period.

The figures reflect the company's expanding business operations alongside changes in profitability as it continues investing in food delivery and quick-commerce services.

At 9:37 am on October 16, Eternal shares were trading at ₹323.60, giving the company a reported market capitalisation of approximately ₹3,11,947 crore.

Block deals allow large quantities of shares to be transferred between market participants through designated trading mechanisms. Such transactions may involve institutional investors adjusting their holdings, although the underlying investment decisions are not necessarily disclosed.

The latest transaction records a transfer of Eternal shares between Goldman Sachs and BofA Securities. No additional details have been provided regarding the institutions' subsequent investment plans or any further changes to their holdings.
