Amit Kumar, Interim India Head, Google Cloud

Google Cloud has appointed Amit Kumar as interim head of its India operations following the departure of Managing Director Sashikumar Sreedharan, who is leaving the company to pursue an external opportunity. The leadership change comes as Google Cloud expands its enterprise cloud and artificial intelligence business in India.

The transition was announced by Karan Bajwa, President, Asia Pacific, Google Cloud, in a LinkedIn post. Kumar, who was serving as Managing Director of Google Cloud's Digital Natives business in India, will oversee the company's operations in the country on an interim basis.

Sreedharan is departing after approximately three years with Google Cloud. He became Managing Director for India in July 2025, having previously served as Chief Operating Officer for the Asia Pacific region for around two years.

Kumar has been associated with Google Cloud since March 2021, when he joined as Sales Director. He subsequently took charge of the company's Digital Natives business, focusing on startups and digital-first enterprises adopting cloud infrastructure and generative AI technologies.

Before joining Google Cloud, Kumar worked at Apple as Country Sales Manager for its enterprise and education business in India. He also spent more than 13 years at Microsoft in various leadership positions and previously held roles at IBM and Tata Telecom.

Commenting on the leadership transition, Bajwa said Google Cloud's India business had witnessed growing demand for cloud and AI services.

"Our momentum in India has never been stronger, fueled by accelerating business and AI growth across the market," Bajwa said, while acknowledging Sreedharan's contribution to the company's regional and India operations.

He added that Kumar's appointment would support continuity in the company's India strategy, with a continued focus on customers and partners.

The leadership change comes amid increasing competition among cloud service providers, including Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services, as Indian enterprises expand their investments in cloud computing and AI applications.

Google Cloud currently operates two cloud regions in India, located in Mumbai and Delhi-NCR. The company has been expanding its infrastructure, engineering capabilities and enterprise partnerships to support growing demand for AI-enabled services.

In October 2025, Google announced plans to invest $15 billion over five years in developing an AI hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The project includes data centre infrastructure, renewable energy capacity and subsea connectivity.

Google Cloud has also expanded its Forward-Deployed Engineer programme in India, deploying AI specialists to work directly with enterprise customers on implementing AI applications.

Kumar's interim appointment places an executive with experience across enterprise technology sales and digital-native businesses in charge of Google Cloud's India operations during its ongoing cloud and AI expansion.
