Havells

Havells India has received a Letter of Comfort from the Uttar Pradesh government for fiscal incentives under the state's Global Capability Centres (GCC) Policy 2024, supporting its proposed ₹879 crore research and development centre in Noida.

The company disclosed the development in a regulatory filing on November 6, 2026, stating that Invest UP, the state's investment promotion agency, had issued the letter on November 5.

The proposed facility, categorised as an Advanced GCC, will be developed as a Centre of Excellence for research and development in Sector 161, Noida, Gautam Buddha Nagar.

Havells plans to invest approximately ₹879 crore in the project over the next few years as part of its strategy to strengthen its research and development capabilities.

Under the Uttar Pradesh GCC Policy 2024, the project is eligible for capital incentives equivalent to 25% of qualifying capital investment, subject to a maximum ceiling of ₹25 crore annually.

The incentive will be disbursed in seven equal annual instalments after the commencement of commercial operations, provided the company fulfils the applicable policy conditions.

In addition to capital support, the policy provides for operational expenditure subsidies, payroll-linked incentives, Employees' Provident Fund reimbursements and assistance for recruiting fresh graduates.

Other provisions include incentives for internships and skill development activities, aimed at supporting employment and workforce development within GCC operations.

The final incentive amount will depend on the company's actual verified investment, expenditure and employment at the time of submitting claims.

The Letter of Comfort therefore establishes eligibility for potential government support but does not represent an immediate disbursement of the full incentive amount.

The development follows the Uttar Pradesh government's approval of four GCC investment proposals worth approximately ₹1,710 crore in Gautam Buddha Nagar in October.

Besides Havells India, the proposals included investments by LG Soft India, Ameriprise India and MetLife Global Operations Support Centre.

The state government approved incentives for Havells and LG Soft India on a case-by-case basis, while Ameriprise and MetLife were considered eligible under the existing policy framework.

The Uttar Pradesh GCC Policy 2024 was introduced to attract companies establishing centres for technology development, engineering, research, financial services and other specialised business functions.

The policy provides financial and operational support to eligible projects, with incentives linked to investment commitments, employment generation and compliance with prescribed conditions.

For Havells, the proposed Noida centre will add to its research and development infrastructure as the electrical equipment and consumer durables manufacturer continues investing in product development and technical capabilities.

The company operates across electrical equipment and consumer product categories, including lighting, cables, switchgear and household appliances.

Havells has not disclosed a specific construction completion date, operational launch timeline or employment target for the proposed facility.

Further details regarding the project's implementation and the actual incentives received will depend on subsequent investment milestones and verification under the state policy.
