Xiaomi has expanded its smart home appliance portfolio in China with the launch of the Mijia Triple-Tube Washing Machine 14kg series, introducing a three-drum design alongside an AI-powered system that can generate washing recommendations based on users' instructions.

The new series is available in two variants, a washer-dryer and a washing-only model. Both offer a combined washing capacity of 14kg, divided between an 11kg main drum and two smaller 1.5kg drums. The washer-dryer version provides a combined drying capacity of 9kg, comprising 7kg in the main drum and 1kg in each smaller drum.

The three drums have independent water supplies and can operate separately or simultaneously. This allows users to separate different categories of laundry while running multiple washing cycles. The smaller drums have a washing ratio of 1.95, compared with 1.32 for the main drum, and feature a diameter of 230mm.

Despite the three-drum configuration, the appliance has a footprint comparable to Xiaomi's Mijia 10kg Ultra-Slim washing machine and has been designed for integration into standard ultra-thin cabinet installations.

A key addition to the new lineup is AI Mijia Lingyun, an intelligent laundry system built using Xiaomi's proprietary washing algorithms and its MiMo large language model.

Instead of relying entirely on preset programmes, users can describe what they want to wash through text or voice. Information such as the material and colour of clothing and the type of stain can be provided to the system, which then generates a personalised washing recommendation.

The feature extends Xiaomi's use of generative AI beyond smartphones and computing devices into household appliances, where natural-language interfaces are increasingly being used to simplify device controls.

The washing machine also includes cold-water sterilisation capabilities. Xiaomi claims the system can provide antibacterial protection inside the drums for up to 10 days. The claims relate to the company's specifications and have not been independently verified.

The Triple-Tube series follows Xiaomi's earlier Mijia Three-Zone Washer Dryer Pro 14kg, which also used multiple drums to separate laundry loads. The latest model places greater emphasis on software and natural-language interaction through the MiMo-powered laundry system.

Pre-orders for the new machines have opened in China. The washing-only model is priced at 3,999 yuan, while the washer-dryer version costs 4,999 yuan. Xiaomi has not announced an international rollout or confirmed whether the new Mijia models will be introduced in India.
