Synthesia Launches AI Roleplay Tool to Bring Live Coaching

AI video platform Synthesia has expanded its enterprise training offering with the launch of Roleplay Sessions, a new interactive coaching feature that allows employees to practice workplace conversations with AI avatars instead of only watching pre-recorded training videos. The move signals the company's broader ambition to evolve from an AI video creation platform into a more comprehensive enterprise learning and skills development solution.

The UK-based startup, known for enabling businesses to create AI-generated training videos using digital avatars, said the new feature is designed to make workplace learning more practical and measurable. Rather than relying solely on passive video consumption, employees can now engage in simulated conversations covering scenarios such as sales pitches, customer support interactions, performance reviews and leadership discussions.

During a session, users interact with an AI avatar that responds in real time, asks follow-up questions, challenges responses and evaluates performance against predefined criteria. After each conversation, the platform generates structured feedback, highlighting strengths, areas for improvement and overall competency based on customised scoring rubrics created by organisations.

The launch reflects a growing shift in enterprise learning from content creation to skill validation. While AI has significantly reduced the time and cost required to produce training material, organisations are increasingly looking for ways to determine whether employees have understood and can apply what they have learned. Synthesia's latest offering aims to address that gap by introducing interactive practice into digital learning programmes.

According to the company, organisations can tailor Roleplay Sessions to their own business requirements by defining conversation objectives, evaluation criteria and expected behaviours. This enables enterprises to create role-specific simulations for customer service representatives, sales teams, managers and other employees while maintaining consistency across training programmes.

The feature also expands Synthesia's product portfolio beyond AI-generated videos, dubbing and multilingual content localisation. Over the past year, the company has introduced interactive capabilities including quizzes, branching experiences and AI-powered editing tools. Roleplay Sessions builds on those capabilities by bringing conversational AI directly into employee training workflows.

Synthesia serves more than 50,000 organisations globally and says its platform is used by 90 percent of Fortune 100 companies for training, internal communications and knowledge sharing. Businesses use the platform to convert presentations, documents and scripts into professional AI-generated videos without requiring traditional filming or production resources.

The latest announcement comes as enterprise AI vendors increasingly compete in the corporate learning technology market. Rather than focusing only on generating content, companies are now introducing AI systems capable of evaluating employee performance, delivering personalised coaching and measuring learning outcomes. The trend reflects growing demand for AI tools that not only automate content creation but also improve workforce readiness and operational effectiveness.

Synthesia has indicated that Roleplay Sessions is the first step toward a broader "Sessions" platform that could support additional interactive learning experiences in the future. As organisations continue investing in workforce upskilling amid rapid AI adoption, platforms that combine content generation with real-time coaching and performance assessment are expected to play a larger role in enterprise learning strategies.
