IIT Delhi Introduces Six-Month Certificate Course

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has introduced a six-month Certificate Programme in Cybersecurity and AI Security for working professionals, focusing on emerging cyber threats associated with the adoption of artificial intelligence across enterprise systems.

Offered through IIT Delhi's Continuing Education Programme (CEP), the course is designed to help professionals identify vulnerabilities, assess security risks and develop safeguards for AI-powered applications. It also covers cybersecurity governance and regulatory compliance requirements.

The programme will comprise 78 hours of live instruction across five modules, followed by a practical capstone project. Classes will be conducted online on Saturdays by IIT Delhi faculty members and industry practitioners.

The curriculum combines conventional cybersecurity principles with specialised AI security topics, including adversarial machine learning, large language model prompt injection, AI red teaming and vulnerabilities associated with autonomous AI agents.

Participants will study five emerging attack areas involving agentic AI systems, including multimodal jailbreaks, Model Context Protocol (MCP) prompt injection, memory poisoning, tool-calling exploitation and model supply chain attacks.

The course will also introduce participants to security tools and frameworks such as PyRIT, Garak, Sigstore, Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Falco.

These tools will be used to support practical exercises involving vulnerability identification, security testing and the development of defensive measures for AI-enabled systems.

As part of the capstone project, participants will be required to develop and deploy an AI security solution, which will be evaluated by IIT Delhi faculty.

Commenting on the programme, Subodh Vishnu Sharma, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Delhi, said the growing integration of AI into enterprise operations required organisations to address security during system development.

He said the programme follows a threat-first approach, helping participants understand how AI systems can be attacked before developing appropriate safeguards.

The course is intended for cybersecurity professionals, AI and machine learning engineers, data scientists, DevOps and platform engineers, and professionals working in governance, risk and compliance.

Applicants must hold a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, information technology, mathematics, statistics or an equivalent discipline, with a minimum of 50% marks. Familiarity with a programming language is preferred.

According to IIT Delhi's programme information, the course fee is ₹1,40,000, excluding 18% GST, bringing the total payable amount to approximately ₹1,65,200.

The programme is scheduled to begin on November 15, 2026, and conclude on May 30, 2027.

Participants meeting the prescribed attendance and assessment requirements will receive a digitally issued Certificate of Completion from IIT Delhi's Continuing Education Programme.

The initiative comes as organisations increasingly deploy AI applications across business operations, creating additional requirements for securing models, data, software integrations and automated workflows.

The programme aims to equip professionals with technical and governance-related skills for addressing these requirements.
