Online travel services major MakeMyTrip has introduced Myra, a generative AI-powered travel planning assistant aimed at making trip booking more conversational, inclusive, and accessible to a wider audience across India. The platform supports multilingual interaction, enabling users to plan and book trips in multiple Indian languages, in addition to English.
According to MakeMyTrip, Myra AI leverages the company’s proprietary dataset alongside large language models (LLMs) to offer personalized itinerary planning, real-time travel recommendations, and end-to-end booking assistance. The assistant is designed to work in a conversational format, where users can describe their travel preferences, budgets, and requirements in natural language and receive curated travel suggestions.
Focus on Multilingual Accessibility
One of Myra AI’s core differentiators is its multilingual capability. It can process and respond in multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Gujarati, and Marathi. This is intended to bridge the accessibility gap for travelers who prefer using regional languages over English when booking travel.
Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder & Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, stated that Myra AI aligns with the company’s broader vision to democratize travel planning in India. “With Myra, we aim to make trip planning intuitive and inclusive, enabling users to interact in the language they are most comfortable with while still receiving high-quality, personalized travel options,” he said.
How Myra AI Works
Myra AI integrates natural language processing (NLP) with MakeMyTrip’s travel inventory to provide instant responses. Users can ask open-ended questions such as “Plan a five-day family trip to Kerala in September with a budget of ₹50,000” or “Find weekend getaways from Delhi that allow pets.”
The AI then generates options for flights, hotels, local experiences, and sightseeing activities, allowing users to refine choices further through follow-up questions. The assistant also factors in seasonal trends, regional festivities, and pricing dynamics to optimize recommendations.
Integration with MakeMyTrip’s Ecosystem
The assistant is embedded directly into the MakeMyTrip mobile app and website, ensuring seamless access for existing customers. The company has also optimized Myra AI to handle secure payment processes, itinerary changes, and cancellations without requiring users to navigate multiple pages.
While many travel companies have begun experimenting with generative AI, MakeMyTrip claims its approach differs by combining domain-specific data with commercial partnerships, ensuring recommendations are not only relevant but also bookable in real time.
Inclusivity in Travel Planning
In addition to multilingual support, Myra AI is designed to assist travelers with varied needs, including senior citizens and people with accessibility requirements. The assistant can filter hotels based on wheelchair accessibility, suggest routes with minimal transit changes, and prioritize health and safety information for specific destinations.
MakeMyTrip highlighted that Myra AI’s language adaptability will be particularly beneficial for first-time digital travelers from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, who may be less familiar with English-language booking platforms.
Industry Context
The launch of Myra AI comes amid a broader trend of generative AI adoption in the travel sector. Competitors globally, including Expedia, Booking.com, and Trip.com, have also introduced AI-powered planning tools. However, multilingual capability remains an area where Indian companies like MakeMyTrip may have a competitive advantage due to the country’s linguistic diversity.
According to industry analysts, conversational AI in travel not only improves user engagement but also increases booking conversion rates by reducing friction in the planning process. For MakeMyTrip, Myra AI could help capture a larger share of India’s domestic travel market, which has been expanding steadily post-pandemic.
Data Privacy and Ethical AI
Addressing concerns around AI and data privacy, MakeMyTrip stated that Myra AI complies with applicable data protection laws and uses encrypted communication for sensitive transactions. The company has also put in place safeguards to prevent the AI from making recommendations based on biased or incomplete data.
Future Plans
MakeMyTrip plans to expand Myra AI’s capabilities over the coming months, including adding voice-based interactions, integrating local transportation options such as intercity buses and ride-hailing, and offering curated travel experiences powered by AI-driven personalization.
The company also hinted at possible partnerships with tourism boards and hospitality providers to enrich the assistant’s recommendation engine with verified, high-quality travel content.
